July 2018 Haiti Mission Update

Hello, everyone! Warm greetings from the Haiti Mission and especially from our children at “Notre Maison” (Our Home), the orphanage in Fonds-Parisien, Haiti! We hope that you and your loved ones are enjoying the warm Summer season, and the students among you are also enjoying a well-deserved break from the many homework assignments, etc. It’s good that God helps us out, allowing for some balance in our lives. In Psalm 68:19 David wrote, “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” (NIV). Indeed, our God forever deserves to be praised for his bountiful providence. Therefore, like David we want to express our heartfelt thanks to God not only for his many spiritual blessings in Jesus Christ, but also for his blessings on the Haiti Mission, and the orphanage NOTRE MAISON (OUR HOME), in particular.

This outreach has been blessed in so many ways. Last year for example, the church in Fond-Parisien had 2 weddings and 2 souls were added to the church through baptism. Another of God’s blessings on this work is the continued generosity of our volunteers/supporters. Without your time, your talent, and your financial support the Haiti Mission, the orphanage NOTRE MAISON in particular, would have been just a dream. But thanks to you this great dream of ours has become a wonderful reality and a life-changing gift to some of the needy children in Haiti. They are among the most vulnerable individuals, and you have come to their assistance. Without your generosity we would not have been able to build a home and provide shelter, 3 meals a day, 24/7 personal care, schooling and medical care for the 12 children that currently called NOTRE MAISON their home. Also, when the regular schools in Fond-Parisien, Haiti, refused to accept our kids due to the fact they were older and had never gone to school, we would not have been able to hire teachers to teach them and help them catch up, had it not been for your generosity.

Thanks to God, to your generosity, and to our teachers in Haiti who worked so diligently to effectively teach across the curriculum, our children have now caught up with other kids their age in Haiti. Our kids can learn. They just needed a helpful hand, and you have come to their rescue. On their behalf, we say THANK YOU!

An Amazing Gift! The orphanage NOTRE MAISON (OUR HOME) is located in Fond-Parisien, Haiti where Electricity is almost non-existent. The power may come for a couple of hours and then be taken away for several days, sometimes weeks, until it comes back again for a few hours, etc. Last Fall, aware of our challenges, a very generous couple decided to donate a small Solar Power System to the Haiti Mission which takes care of all our electricity needs and get us off the city grid al-together. Now, no more blackouts. No more spoiled food. No more burned well pump controllers. Before the solar system, due to frequent power surges from the city power, we had to replace the control box for the well pump 3 times in 2 years. We’ve had this solar system for 8 months now, and guess how many surges we’ve had so far? 0. We are humbled by such a great generosity and we pray that God will bless the donors and their household in return.

Next Steps-Our plan is to be able to welcome more children to NOTRE MAISON and care for them 24/7 like we do for the kids who are currently at NOTRE MAISON. The orphanage building could lodge up to 40 kids, and we hope to be able to help 40 kids one day. We also plan to accept some other children to the school in order to help ease the burden of some of the parents who cannot afford to send their kids to school. This will also provide an opportunity for the kids at Notre Maison to interact with other kids in the community. Consequently, some construction is underway to get 6 classrooms ready for September 2018 (see photos). 6 additional classrooms will be ready for September 2019. We will keep you posted on our progress, next trip details, etc.
